The Rewaxing and Reproofing Process
How We Clean Your Waxed Jacket
When we are cleaning your jacket we only use cold water and different grades of brushes and sponges dependent on the levels of age and wax still left on the jacket .We strip the old wax from the wax jacket as the smells from the old wax is making the jacket smell musty and then mould spores will appear. As part of our cleaning process we will treat the mouldy jacket with our Anti mould treatment.
This is also caused by how the jacket is stored ,They need to be stored in a breathable jacket carrier please see our shop page for jacket carriers , this will retain the jackets waxing and give longevity by stopping the jackets wax drying out .
We always clean the insides as part of the cleaning process as well as the cord or moleskin collar
Our clean will eradicate the smells
We soften the wax to be applied
We have designed and developed our bespoke heated tables, we developed the tables so they gently warm thru the jacket this making the re waxing much more of an easier process meaning the wax evenly distributed all done thru our recycled energy for our
sustainable project we have a huge passion for .
Using the tins of wax whether its Barbour, Belstaff or Drizabone or our in house wax we place the wax in our industrial wax smelter it normally takes around 15 minutes we melt around 30 litres at a time until the wax is at a liquid consistency this will re wax around 150 jackets depending on what particular re waxing is needed.
How We Re-Wax Your Jacket
Using recycled cloths and sponges, we work the melted wax into the jacket paying particular attention to the seams ,creases and dryer patches ,We are extremely meticulous when re waxing we have a system in place that no area of the jacket is missed , some jackets need a double waxing due to the age and dryness of the wax cotton
We always avoid the corduroy or moleskin collars when re waxing as if wax got on their would stain and could damage the nap of the fabric
We are able to re wax this way as everything we do is done by hand so the care and attention to detail is paramount to our work ethic and company ethos
How We Dry Your Jacket Having Re-Waxed It
We dry your jacket with specialist equipment to ensure the even spread of wax given the jacket the uniformity as close to factory finish as possible , Your jackets after re waxing will stay in our warming room over night to further make sure the wax has evenly been distributed
The jacket will sometimes have slight wax bleeding please be mindful of delicate clothing
We recommend you to have your jacket cleaned and re waxed once of year subject to how much you have worn it throughout the year
Please store your jacket correctly when not in use this will retain the moisture of the wax within the jacket whilst preventing the jacket drying out with sun damage and household central heating
After Care – Now It’s Your Turn
Please note that after the re-waxing process slight wax bleeding may occur, so you need to be mindful of contact with delicate clothing.
Please store your jacket with care away from direct sunlight and central heating sources, as this will help retain the moisture of the wax, prolonging waterproof qualities and preventing the jacket drying out.
We recommend you have your jacket cleaned and re-waxed once a year for optimum performance depending on usage throughout the year things to look out for:
